The Icon

The Icon that I chose to represent this site is one that I encountered at Taize.

The official name is “Christ and Abbot Mena” but I first knew it as “Christ and his friend.”

It is an 8th century piece that was found in the remains of a Coptic monastery in Egypt. The intimacy that it portrays is what I seek to find in my own spiritual journey, along with the example of who I want to be for others. It also represents my attempts to stay connected to the historical church, and specifically to monasticism.

You can read more about the Icon here and about what we know of Abbot Mena here.
